Islay House, Islay

Scotland

Built in 1677, with subsequent additions including a wing by William Playfair, Islay House is a Grade A listed residence and one of Scotland’s grandest country houses.

Working with Historic Environment Scotland, Millier established proposals and obtained planning permission for the conversion of the twenty bedroom manor house into a twenty-four bedroom hotel, to meet expectations of grandeur, comfort and luxury.

The architectural approach required careful design intervention, sensitivity to the listed fabric of the building, and celebration of its rich, vibrant history, providing a viable future for this significant residence.
